A POPULAR fundraising event that combines trains, real ale and music is returning to the Dales in the summer.

The Swale Valley Stompers are hosting their third annual Jazz and Real Ale Train on the Wensleydale Railway to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Taking place on June 17, the fun starts on the platform at Leeming Bar at 7pm with music and dancing, before the train leaves at 7.30pm for a round trip to Redmire.

Guests can bring their own picnic and drink to enjoy on the trip, and there will be a bar on board serving real ale throughout the journey.

Peter Edmonds of the Swale Valley Stompers said: “In the two years it has been running, the Jazz Train has raised over £4,000 for local people affected by cancer, and we’ve had some great fun, music and food in the process.

“We are looking forward to another great year to take us over the £5,000 mark.”

Train tickets for the event cost £15.
