MACE Bearers from all over the country will be descending on Ripon for special ceremonies next month.

Three days of celebrations from Wednesday, March 1 will see Serjeant at Mace for the City of Ripon, Mr Jim Vauvert, installed as the Prime Warden for the Guild of Mace Bearers for the next year.

This will take place at Ripon Cathedral on March 2 and will follow a parade from the Town Hall to the cathedral for the Installation ceremony at 9.45am.

After the service, there will be a short break before the mace bearers make their way back to the Town Hall for the Bellman ceremony.

All Guild members will then take part in training sessions for the rest of the day followed by the Annual Guild of Mace Bearers dinner at the Spa Hotel in the evening.

Friday morning members will attend the AGM which will be held in Council Chambers in the Town Hall.

Mace bearing is a historic role in which the bearer assists civic leaders in carrying out ceremonial duties.
