THE results of a £200,000 scheme to improve Thirsk and Sowerby Leisure Centre have been unveiled.

The work in the pool hall and changing areas, funded by Hambleton District Council, included the replacement of the pool surround tiles, high level ceiling cladding and refreshing the seating.

The project also saw changes to the poolside lighting and extra storage installed for pool equipment.

The changing rooms have been refreshed with improved lighting and drainage and regrouting of the floor and shower walls.

The council’s leisure boss, Councillor Bridget Fortune, said the revamp confirmed the authority’s commitment to helping keep people fit and healthy.

She said: “The whole centre has benefitted from a refresh with clearer signage inside and out and the improvements have been very well received by customers and the rest of the community.”

The work follows a £250,000 project to overhaul the changing areas in 2014, when all the fixtures and fittings installed when the centre opened in 1992 were replaced.
