THE Wensleydale Concert Series celebrates its first anniversary on Saturday, May 14 by bringing back the world-renowned cellist, Corinne Morris.

She will be accompanied by the Northern Camerata conducted by Andy Jackson at St Andrew's Church, Aysgarth.

Carol Haynes, who runs Dales Computer Services business from her home in Carperby, started the concert series after wanting to bring quality music to the Dale for those less able to travel.

She said: “I was aware that there were concerts in Richmond in the winter and the Swaledale Festival for two weeks in the summer, but for the rest of the year there was not very much classical music to go and hear in Wensleydale.”

Ms Haynes is grateful to the musicians who have lowered their fees to help her get the concert series underway, and she has now applied for charitable status.

The concerts will include chamber music, a guitar recital, piano recitals, and a baroque group playing early instruments.

The concert at 7.30pm on May 14 will include Monn’s early classical concert and Couperin’s Pieces en Concert, as well as several English works for string orchestra by Finzi, Purcell, Ireland and Elgar. For more information, and to buy discounted tickets, go to www.wensleydaleconcertseries.co.uk.
