A CYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital after his bike hit a car in Maison Dieu, Richmond.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service was called to the incident at 11.49am today and said Yorkshire Air Ambulance took the man, who is in his 60s, to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

North Yorkshire Police closed the road in both directions, stopping traffic between Brompton on Swale and Richmond.

A police spokeswoman said: "The man came off his bike on Maison Dieu. It seems he was in a collision with a stationary car."
