STUDENTS have been enjoying a sneak peek at the opportunities that could be open to them in the future.

Youngsters from Thirsk School were hosted by the Higher York Network for Collaborative Outreach across several of its partner universities and colleges.

The visits were part of a programme of activities to better inform the students of the higher education possibilities that could be open to them in the future.

Some students had a chance to learn more about academic lectures, while others visited a working farm and a variety of other land-based teaching facilities.

The Thirsk students took part in a range of activities including group research looking into famous graduates, talking to current students about their experiences and touring campuses.

Some parents also attended the day to see why their children should consider entering higher education and how they could support them.

HYNCO project manager Colin Rainey said: "It is important that the institutions in the network work together to ensure that students, like those in Thirsk, get the best chance to see what higher education can offer them, no matter what their future goals are.”
