JEREMY Clarkson's career-defining fracas has been immortalised in metal, according to a social media post by the hotel where the infamous brawl took place.

Simonstone Hall, near Hawes in North Yorkshire, was the scene of a punch-up between Clarkson and his colleague Oisin Tymon.

The rural hotel shared a picture of a tongue-in-cheek plaque in a Facebook post which reads: "Here lies the BBC career of Jeremy Clarkson. Who had a fracas on this spot 4th March 2015. The rest is legend."

Moving on, Jeremy Clarkson

The former Top Gear host was sacked by the BBC for punching producer Tymon after Clarkson arrived back after a long day's filming in March to find the kitchen had closed and he was unable to order a steak dinner.

Earlier this month it emerged that Mr Tymon is suing Clarkson and the BBC for racial discrimination, centring on "verbal abuse" he said he received from the presenter during the fracas.

The country house hotel, which describes itself as the "ultimate tranquil retreat", wrote: "We were presented with this plaque from one of our guests last night!

"We think it would be quite appropriate to put it on the patio where the fracas took place!!"

The donor is believed to be an anonymous visitor.

The post has caused some debate among other users who question whether the plaque is “celebrating bullying.”

Facebook user Steven Welsby said: “I may be wrong but wasn't the argument started because Simonstone Hall was unable to provide the Top Gear crew with a warm meal at the end of a day's filming? If so, I'm not sure I'd be quite so quick to ride on the coattails of this incident.”

Richard Robinson added the comment: “I have certainly NOT had a sense of humour bypass but celebrating bullying? What next? Your kid gets thumped at school and there is a commemorative plaque in the playground?

“Clarkson and his ilk have bought bullying into plain sight...I do not believe we should be celebrating at all...The man is a bully, who thumped an employee on your property.”

But other Facebook fans of the hotel’s page have taken the plaque in good humour, many saying their claim to fame is that they have stood in the same spot.

No one from Simonstone Hall was able to comment further on the plaque. Simonstone Hall is currently on the market for £995,000 with Colliers International, as an 18 bedroom hotel dating back to the 1700s.

Clarkson will front a new show on Amazon Prime with co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond in the New Year, while Chris Evans will host the new look Top Gear when it returns for a new series.
