A CELEBRATION of autumn produce is taking place at a visitor attraction, where people can go on a guided “fungi foray” and pick up other tips for turning seasonal vegetables into a harvest feast.

Next weekend the RHS garden Harlow Carr, at Harrogate, will be hosting its own Autumn Food Festival.

On Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11 there will be tastings, displays and local food stalls throughout the weekend, from 10am until 4pm.

Visitors to the North Yorkshire garden can enjoy cookery demonstrations from 11am until 3pm with award-winning French chef, Lionel Strub, who will use fresh produce harvested from Harlow Carr’s Kitchen Garden.

People can also book a place on a “fungus foray” to discover fresh fungi and identify edible mushrooms that grow in the garden. The walk will be led by the Mid Yorkshire Fungus Group and has to be booked separately in advance by calling 020-3176-5830.

Martin Fish, writer and BBC Radio York gardening expert, will be in the garden talking about growing fruit. He will offer tips on planting, pruning and maintaining fruit in the garden and in containers, and will give advice on how to store, preserve and juice your autumn harvest.

Visitors can also along their home-grown apples for identification by experts from the Northern Fruit Group. Those who want their apples identifying are advised to supply at least three from each tree.
