A BIG-hearted man is preparing to take on a 110-mile trek to raise money to help terminally-ill children.

Lee Overton, of Swinton, near Malton, will tackle the Cleveland Way trail walking from Helmsley across the North York Moors to finish at Filey five days later.

A quality assurance worker, he raising money for Alice’s Escapes, a charity helping terminally and seriously ill children to have a holiday.

The 30-year-old said he was inspired to raise money for the charity following the death of his friend Daniel Frost in 2012.

He said: “I have always wanted to do this trek but instead of just doing it I wanted to do it for a very worthy cause.

“Daniel passed away in 2012 and it really made me think that he did more in the last two years of his life than some people do in a lifetime.

“That was my driving force and when I saw the charity I thought I definitely wanted to do this for them to give the children something to remember and some happiness, even if it is just for a short while.”

Daniel Frost, from Malton, was 27 when he died suddenly in his hotel room in Calcutta in 2012. He had been in the city after a driving trip to the Andaman Islands and had been due to travel on to Australia and New Zealand to work.

Mr Overton will set off on September 18 and plans to cover about 20 miles a day. “I am trying to get as much training in as possible and do between 15-20 miles every day when I can,” he said.

“I will be walking up to ten to 12 hours a day with some parts of the route particularly strenuous, but I am definitely looking forward to the challenge.”
