WHILST many are no doubt familiar with Goathland station - made famous by ITV’s Heartbeat and as Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films – few will ever have seen it quite like this.

Scarborough and District Railway Modellers club has painstakingly recreated the North York Moors' Goathland station in miniature – complete with recognisable scenarios from the television series Heartbeat.

The replica of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway station even depicts the series’ popular rogue Claude Greengrass being apprehended by police.

The scene will be on display at the Pickering Model Railway Exhibition on August 22 and 23.

The event is taking place at the town’s Memorial Hall, just yards away from the heritage railway’s Pickering station, which can transport visitors to Goathland.

John Bruce, Goathland’s real-life station master and a North Yorkshire Moors Railway volunteer for more than 40 years, said: “The likeness is remarkable and it is a very accurate representation of Goathland Station and the many stories depicted in the model help to bring it to life.”

The Scarborough modellers’ club has about 30 members and meets twice a week to create and operate model railways. Its members come mostly from North Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, with two living in London.

Between them, they specialise in everything from layout design and research, to electronics and computer control and painting and “weathering”.

Mike Johnson, chairman of the Scarborough and District Railway Modellers, said the venue was an ideal opportunity for people to have a look at the model, then take a trip to see the real station.

“Over the exhibition weekend, visitors can see what is really possible in the miniature world,” he added.

‘Goathland in 00’ is one of ten working model railways on display at the Pickering Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday, August 22 from 10am until 5pm and on Sunday, August 23 August from 10am until 4pm.
