A BUSINESSWOMAN who lost her mother to heart disease, is embarking on a marathon to raise money for research into the condition.

Sarah Bray, from Sowerby near Thirsk, will take part in the Morrisons Great North Run on September 13 to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Sarah, 46, who owns holiday cottage company, Yorkshire Bolt Holes, said: “I decided to take part because I sadly lost my mum to heart disease combined with complications with her diabetes, when she was just 59.

“I am striving to eat healthily and keep active myself in later life, and thought what better way to give myself something to work towards and raise vital funds at the same time, along with having some fun along the way too.”

She will also be raising further funds for the charity when she co-hosts a charity event with her running pal Leanne Brown, also from Sowerby, on Saturday, August 1 at the Crown and Anchor on Front Street, Sowerby. The event starts at 5pm with a barbecue, raffle and live music.

Leanne is running for Brain Tumour Research in Leeds and proceeds from the event will be split between the two charities.
