ATHLETES have battled wind and rain to complete a charity race over a course organisers claim is the toughest in the country.

The Adrenalin Rush race, on Aske Moor, near Richmond, saw about 90 runners cross 8.2 miles of bogs, rivers, woods and hills before tackling 24 obstacles on an 800m assault course which has been used for the Krypton Factor television show.

Former paratrooper Will Scullion said while only two runners failed to complete the course, seasoned ultra-distrance and iron man competitors had said the race was the hardest they had experienced.

He said: "It achieved it aim of being a short, sharp shock in shed loads and the weather made it even more challenging.

"Most people ran for the sheer challenge.

"The event has raised more than £2,000 for ABF The Soldiers Charity, which supports serving and retired soldiers and their families."

The next Adrenalin Rush race is due to be held on October 4.
