A CRUEL care home boss dubbed a female Darth Vader is behind bars tonight after abusing four vulnerable residents.

Siobhan Koralewski waved her breasts in front of an 88-year-old man saying “Do you like that you dirty old man?”, bit him between the legs and slapped him.

She also gave a woman with Down’s Syndrome and dementia a “wedgie”, stuffed toilet paper into her mouth and forced her to finish the dregs of a cup of tea, all at the Roundstones care home in Filey, North Yorkshire.

Koralewski was the deputy manager and lived at the home, which was owned by her parents. She was found guilty of five charges of ill-treating or neglecting people of limited mental capacity, the victims being dementia sufferers Kenneth Pinkney, 88, Elizabeth Hall, 59, and Joan Normington, 92, and stroke victim Harold Waller, 91.

Her mother, Margaret Koralewski, 67, was cleared of all four charges against her.

At Durham Crown Court today (Friday, December 19), the 30-year-old was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to loud applause and shouting from Bessie Grainger, Ms Hall’s sister.

She said Koralewski’s actions had caused her unimaginable pain and emotional trauma and she felt guilty as she had promised her parents she would always care for her sister.

Amanda Marshall, Kenneth Pinkney’s daughter, said she learned of the abuse shortly after her late father’s funeral and the episode would stay with her for the rest of her life.

Sentencing, Judge Howard Crowson told Koralewski he understood being a carer could be stressful and she was not normally malicious but she had badly let down the four residents with her “disgraceful and demeaning” behaviour.

Robert Newcombe, for Koralewski – who is likely to be barred from ever working in care again – said she had worked as a carer for seven years previously without any difficulty and was completely devoted to the home residents, undertaking many acts of kindness in addition to her daily care work.

Koralewski’s brother Jeremy, a cook at the home, and his partner Jennifer Price, a care worker, testified against her at the seven-day Teesside Crown Court in November.

Detective Sergeant Mike Moorhouse said evidence suggested Koralewski was a “Darth Vader-type character” within the home.
