POLICE have issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the assault of a woman who was followed home from work in the early hours.
Officers are appealing for the man to come forward and to anyone who can help identify him to contact them as soon as possible.
Detectives say the man could have important information which could help the investigation.
The incident happened at about 2.30am last Sunday, October 26, when a 24-year-old woman was followed home from work in York city centre.
As she walked along Nessgate and Walmgate a man followed her and spoke to her. When she entered the communal area of her home, she was attacked.
She then screamed and her attacker ran off along Walmgate in the direction of the city walls. The woman sustained only minor injuries.
Anyone who can help identify the man shown in the CCTV image is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for York CID. Alternativelty email yorkCID@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555-111.
