FOUR people were arrested during a police day of action aimed at deterring travelling criminals.

The co-ordinated operation in the York area also saw 24 people being searched, one vehicle sized and 29 others being stopped.

Five fixed penalty notices were issued, a stolen Chris Boardman bicycle recovered and new intelligence was gathered to help fight crime.

Officers also seized 200 tablets believed to be ecstasy, a small amount of cannabis and a quantity of white powder which is currently undergoing tests.

Inspector Dave Edwards said the aim was “to ramp up the pressure on travelling criminals by actively targeting them and disrupting their activity".

He added: “Our policing teams do this every day of the week and in every part of North Yorkshire and York.

“The days of action allow us to concentrate specialist resources and effort in particular locations which continues to be effective, as we have seen in York.

“It also sends out a clear message to criminals that North Yorkshire Police is closely watching and waiting for them.”
