AN ORGANIC farm is set to mark the arrival of autumn by staging a pumpkin day.

The free-entry event, on Saturday, October 25, from 11am to 4pm, will be held at Home Farm, Newby Wiske, near Northallerton by vegetable box producer Riverford, which delivers to more than 4,000 customers a week across the North of England.

It will feature numerous activities, including pumpkin carving, cookery demonstrations, tractor rides and vegetable-related games.

There will also be opportunities to dig for earthworms as part of Riverford’s Big Worm Dig, a survey designed to boost our knowledge of the British earthworm population.

Local folk band, Fiddlyn Man Doris, will perform and visitors will be invited to sample dishes prepared by Riverford franchisee and cook Gwen Young or string chillies to make an original Christmas present.

Farmer Peter Richardson said: “Our Pumpkin Day is a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of autumn and all the fantastic food that it brings.
