Charity fundraisers who got on their bikes for a 27 mile circuit of the Dales raised over £3,000.

The bike ride sponsored by Masham Brewery T and R Theakston set off from the Black Bull in Masham taking in some of the Dales most spectacular scenery and several local pubs.

Nearly 50 cyclists took part in the event which has been organised for the last nine years by Chris Wade of the Milbank Arms at Well and Kris Stephenson, formerly of the Freemansons Arms at Nosterfield, near Bedale. Kris did the ride with a wooden cask, handcrafted by Theakston’s cooper Jonathan Manby , strapped to his back.

Chris Wade said: “Once again I would like to praise all those who took part and thank Theakston’s for sponsoring the event. The Lower Dales Circle Charity Bike Ride always receives tremendous support.

“This year, with the memories of Le Grand Depart still fresh in the mind, all of the 47 riders were extremely enthusiastic, in addition to being good fun and not too much of a challenge, it raises valuable funds for a host of charities, all chosen by the riders.”

Brewery director Simon Theakston added: “Chris is to be congratulated for kick-starting the bike ride back in 2006, over the last nine years, it’s raised in the region of £50,000.”

Charities which have benefitted include the Great North Air Ambulance, Help For Heroes, Yorkshire Cancer Research and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
