DETECTIVES investigating a serious sex attack in York have urged anyone in the area at the time of the attack to contact them immediately.

The sexual assault happened at around 9.15pm on Thursday, August 21, in the Friargate area of York.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, had just left Yates Wine Lodge and was heading towards the old fire station when she was approached from behind and sexually assaulted in an alleyway off Friargate.

The suspects are both described as Asian and aged in their mid-twenties. One of them had spiky hair and a very thin build. The second man is described as having a chubby build.

Officers need to speak to anyone who was either on Castlegate or Clifford Street, between 9pm and 9.30pm that evening.

There may have been people waiting for a bus on nearby Clifford Street around that time who may have useful information.

The attack happened less than a week after another serious sexual assault took place near the entrance to the Museum Gardens in York. In the early hours of Sunday, August 17, a man aged in his forties with a bald head and an Eastern European accent attacked a teenage girl on the river path before walking towards Scarborough Bridge.
