PLANS to help improve nature and the environment in North Yorkshire have been released to the public.
The North Yorkshire and York Local Nature Partnership is one of 48 in England that were created by Government to create a “step-change” in how the natural environment is managed.
And it has now set out priorities it claims will enable the natural environment to be “conserved, enhanced and connected for the benefit of wildlife, people and the economy".
Chairman Ian Fielding said: “This strategy sets out how the people and organisations across North Yorkshire and York can work together to best effect for the benefit of nature, the environment and the people who live, work and visit the area.”
Patron Professor Sir John Lawton, an eminent ecologist who lives in York, said: “I wish the partnership every success as it strives to make more space for nature on my doorstep.
“This is not just a self-indulgent wish. There is now overwhelming evidence that contact with nature is good for people’s mental and physical health.”

The website also contains a database of more than 100 external grants available, collated by the LNP to help environmental projects identify suitable funding sources.
