FUNDRAISERS are inviting cyclists of all ages to join them on a 20-mile fun ride to help boost local good causes.

The Thirsk Rotary Club event, which will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 2pm, has raised £5,000 for causes ranging from the East Thirsk Christmas lunch to trips to Lightwater Valley theme park for disabled since it was launched in 2011.

Organiser Colin Watt said the route through rural roads with low traffic volumes near Thirsk had been designed for the occasional rider.

He said: “We are delighted that we have sponsors from the business community, including Calverts Carpets, White Rose Books, Upstairs Downstairs, Luke Miller Estate Agents and Towlers Newsagents.

“This is already a great response, but between now and the ride we want more riders and sponsors.

“We are delighted the number of riders taking part has increased from the original two riders who wanted to do something useful while keeping a bit fitter.”

The ride leaves at Millgate car park, in Thirsk, leaving at 2pm and includes breaks at The Kings Arms, Sandhutton and The Angel Inn, at Topcliffe.
