A KEEN gardener is preparing to show off her garden for charity – which features an impressive display of more than 8,000 daffodils.

Annabel Fife, a teacher and garden designer from Great Langton, near Northallerton, said she decided to plant thousands of the Narcissus Actaea variety of the spring flower after flood water engulfed her home and garden two years ago.

She said: “After the flood water subsided in autumn 2012 I decided to make something positive of it and planted the bulbs. When they came out for the first time last year it was a wonderful sight.”

Mrs Fife opens her garden as part of the National Garden Scheme to raise money for various charities including Macmillan, Marie Curie and Parkinson’s UK.

She said: “I have a passion for gardening and thought it would be a nice way to do something for charity.

“The riverside garden also includes formal and informal gravel areas, flower garden, and there will be afternoon teas available.”

The garden at Langdon Farm will be open on Sunday, April 27 from noon until 6pm and entry costs £4 for adults, with children going free.
