Rescued badger cub on the road to recovery
A BADGER cub left starving, distressed and homeless after her parents died is on the road to recovery after being rescued.
The ten-week old orphan, named Jill, received round-the-clock care after being rescued by Jean Thorpe, of Norton, in Ryedale.
She was found lying next to the body of her dead sister in Silph, near Scarborough.
Since rescuing Jill, Ms Thorpe has been giving her two-hourly feeds of milk.
She said: "When we found her she was really hungry. At this time of year, badger cubs should still be underground. We don't know what's happened to her and her sister.
"It's possible the mother was killed on the road or the family were washed out of the sett during the recent bad storms."
Jill is expected to return to the wild later this year.
