A WOMAN who was struck by a lorry this morning has died of her injuries.
The pedestrian was fatally injured just after 11.15am in Durham Road, Low Fell, Gateshead, a short distance from its junction with Belle Vue Bank.
The main road through the suburb has been closed by police and an accident investigation is now underway.
The lorry driver, a 51-year-old man, is helping police with enquiries.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Roads are closed in Gateshead following a collision involving a pedestrian and a truck.
“Diversions are in place and people are asked to avoid the area.
“Enquiries are at a very early stage and are ongoing.”
