A FORMER Bake Off star treated coffee morning goers to their very own showstopper as part of efforts to raise money for cancer care.
Andrew Smyth, a finalist on last year’s Great British Bake Off, visited npower’s offices in Houghton-le-Spring to take part in its Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, impressing staff with his wind turbine Madeira cake.
He said: “Baking is a brilliant way to raise money for such an important cause like Macmillan – it’s lots of fun and is the perfect opportunity to get friends and family together.
“Whether it’s a secret family recipe, a classic or an inventive bake, I’d encourage everyone to give it a go and get involved this year.”
“Cancer has a huge impact on the lives of so many people and it’s vital that Macmillan can continue to provide crucial support. I’m very proud to be a part of this through my passion for baking.”
Npower’s head of community Beth Gardner said: “It’s been brilliant to have Andrew working alongside us and we hope his cake recipe inspires others to hold their very own coffee morning.”
