ATTACK: A man has been injured near The Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland
A MAN is fighting for his life after being attacked outside a city centre car park.
The 53-year-old victim was assaulted near the entrance of the Debenham's car park at The Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland on Sunday night.
He was attacked at around 9.30pm and taken to hospital.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "He was taken to hospital where he is currently in a serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
"A 26 year old man has been arrested and is currently in police custody".
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Anyone who was in the area and saw what happened is asked to ring Northumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 111555.
