CONTROVERSIAL comedian Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown has reportedly been banned from performing at Newcastle City Hall due to the rudeness of his act.

The Teesside-born entertainer has made a five decades-long career out of controversial jokes but according to the Sunday Sun his gig in Newcastle next spring has been pulled by the City Hall’s managers the Newcastle Theatre Royal Trust.

Mr Brown is reported as saying the decision to axe his show feels like ‘a divorce’ as he has played at the venue many times over the years.

The Sunday Sun claims to have seen an email sent to Mr Brown’s management team informing them of the cancellation of his “unpleasant, crude and offensive” act.

He was due to perform at the venue on April 14, 2018.

Mr Brown rose to fame in the 1970s and is one of the country’s most recognisable comedians with his trademark patchwork jacket and flying helmet.

He is no stranger to controversy and has had previously had gigs cancelled at venues across the country who deem his show inappropriate.

In 2016 Mr Brown’s representative Steven Lloyd told The Northern Echo that Darlington Borough Council has for many years blocked appearances at its venues in the town.

However, the comedian, who lives in a village between Northallerton and Darlington, is due to perform at Northallerton Forum on September 8.

The following day he is scheduled to perform at Whitby Pavillion and tickets to these gigs are still available online.
