THE husband of a primary school teacher who was stabbed to death in her home has been charged with murder.

Detectives investigating the knife attack on 39-year-old Julie Parkin have confirmed Adam Parkin, 35, is facing prosecution for her death.

He was arrested shortly after Ms Parkin was fatally wounded during a domestic incident at their home in Kirkwall Close in Castletown, Sunderland.

Emergency services were called at 12.10am on Tuesday but nothing could be done to save the mother-of-two’s life.

As well as one count of murder, Mr Parkin has been charged with attempted murder and is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court tomorrow morning.

Mrs Parkin, who had a teenage son and daughter, was a popular year three and four teacher at West Boldon Primary School.

Her brutal murder has left the school community in shock and parents of pupils have left floral tributes at the gates this week.

Her family has issued a statement saying they are all ‘utterly devastated’.

As part of the investigation police are also keen to learn the whereabouts of a Black Mazda 6 NL59 MWJ between 10.30pm and midnight on Monday, June 26.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 13-270-617.
