PUPILS put their creative skills to the test when they designed and built their own bridges to celebrate the construction of a major new river crossing
Schoolchildren at St Joseph’s Primary School in Millfield designed and built 47 bridges, of all shapes and sizes, to coincide with their Science and Engineering Week and to celebrate the build of Sunderland’s New Wear Crossing.
Brigid McGuigan, community engagement manager for Farrans Victor Buyck Joint Venture, which is building the crossing on behalf of Sunderland City Council, said: “The children’s ideas were amazing - I was blown away by their skill and enthusiasm.
“They were all winners really, but Ben and Joel just had the edge with their wonderful creations.”
