A MAN has been arrested after a body was found in the North-East.

Police were called to the West End of Newcastle after reports of concern for the welfare of two men at around 5.30am this morning. (Wednesday, May 10)

Officers were called to the scene on Joan Street by North East Ambulance Service where one man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is being treated as unexplained.

The second man was taken to hospital in a serious condition but his condition is now described as stable.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Enquiries to establish the circumstances around the death are ongoing but officers have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the incident.

“He remains in police custody at this time.

“Officers will remain in the area throughout the day to carry out enquiries and reassure any concerned members of the public.”
