FUN and club runners found it anything but a breeze as they tackled half marathon and ten kilometre courses round a blustery North-East city.
Around 4,000 runners lined up for today's (Sunday, May 7) seventh Run Sunderland Festival, featuring marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe and local GB Olympian Alyson Dixon.
The two “leading ladies” did not disappoint the crowds as they led home the field in a sprint finish to the women’s half-marathon, in Keel Square.
As the younger, current competitor, Ms Dixon got the better of the race to the line, finishing a second ahead of her veteran rival, in one hour 23.01, but both were almost two-and-a-half minutes ahead of third finisher, Jenny Watt, of Vale Royal club, in Cheshire.
Winner of the men’s half-marathon was Abraham Tewelde, of Saltwell Harriers, in 1:10:07, three seconds ahead of Tristan Learoyd, of New Marske Harriers,.
