A 20-YEAR-old man has been arrested over the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident.
Northumbria Police said the man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a silver Vauxhall Vectra struck another 20-year-old man, at 4.30am on Saturday, in Anderson Street, South Shields, South Tyneside.
The driver of the car left the scene.
Police said the vehicle would have been visibly damaged.
Investigating officers said the silver car had been travelling south along Anderson Street before going straight over the roundabout at the junction with Beach Road, then continuing on Anderson Street.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Inquiries are ongoing to trace the vehicle which is believed to have substantial damage at the front, and officers are asking anyone who has seen it or has information about where it is to contact them."
