POLICE are investigating after an elderly woman was knocked down by a car and seriously hurt.
The pedestrian, a 76-year-old woman, was knocked over by a white Mercedes at around around 1.10pm on Good Friday in Howdon Road in North Shields.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said the woman has been taken to the RVI in Newcastle where she remains in a serious condition.
The spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was knocked over by a car in North Tyneside.
“The road was closed for a short time to allow enquiries to be carried out.
“It has since been reopened. Officers are appealing for witnesses.”
