EMINENT historian and TV broadcaster Michael Wood will give a free public lecture looking back over three decades of documentary making.

Travels in Time: Making History on TV will be held at Sunderland University’s Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s, Sunderland, at 6.30pm on Wednesday April 5.

Mr Wood, who has been bringing history alive in Britain, the US and further afield, is the author of several highly praised books on English history, including: In Search of the Dark Ages, Domesday, and In Search of England. He has also written and presented well over 100 documentary films, among them In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great and The Story of India.

His Story of England, which told the history of Britain through the eyes of one village - Kibworth in Leicestershire - was described by the Independent newspaper as ‘the most innovative history series ever on TV’.

More recently Michael has presented The Story of China on BBC2, which embarks on a great historical adventure, exploring 4,000 years of stories, people and landscapes that have contributed to China’s distinct character.
