HISTORY lovers have been invited to meet some of the Terrible Tudors at a family fun day.
Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn will be among the characters featured at the event at St Michael and All Angels Church, in The Broadway, Houghton-le-Spring.
The church will fling open its doors to welcome the people of town from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, March 4.
Visitors to the Tudor Family Fun Day will also encounter the world of the famous Rector Bernard Gilpin, who was rector in the town during the turbulent and bloody years of the Tudors.
They will be able to find out what inspired Gilpin 500 years ago to make such a difference to the community.
The event will also include crafts, activities, story telling and a Tudor cooking demonstration.
Visitors will also find out how a spinning wheel works and much more.
Houghton-le-Spring Rector Canon Sue Pinnington said: “We want not only to celebrate Bernard Gilpin and all he means to our town but also to inspire the next generation to acts of faith, generosity and service to continue his legacy for another 500 years.”
