POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in a taxi in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Northumbria Police said the incident took place between 3am and 4am in Newcastle, while the taxi was parked in Orchard Place in the Jesmond area of the city.
The woman got the black hackney style cab from somewhere in the Pilgrim Street area sometime after 3am.
A police statement said: “She was taken to Jesmond and after the car stopped and parked up the driver touched the woman inappropriately.
“She screamed, fled the car and reported the incident to police.”
Officers said inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
