CONMEN tried to fleece a man out of thousands of pounds for roof repairs.

Two men thought to be in their 30s called at a house in Dinsdale Street in Sunderland, claiming to have replaced tiles on the property and demanding payment.

The occupant tried to withdraw cash to pay them, but alert bank staff thought it was suspicious and advised him to call police.

The first suspect was about 6ft tall, with stubble and dark hair.

He was wearing dark jogging bottoms, a black hoodie with a logo, black baseball cap and work boots.

His accomplice was smaller, with mousey hair and “very tanned” skin.

He was wearing a light grey hoodie with red writing on the back, a light grey or white baseball cap, and light coloured jogging bottoms.

Anyone with information is asked to ring Northumbria Police on 101.

A spokesman said: “People with elderly and vulnerable family and friends should make sure they are aware to be cautious as they are often the target for conmen.”
