A PRIMARY school has raised more than £1,300 for a children's cancer fund in memory of a 14-year-old who died this year.

Cullercoats Primary School, in North Shields, raised the money in memory of Olly Bilcliffe, who died days after his 14th birthday last February.

The school's parents' association held a ceilidh at the Christmas fair, raising more than £1,300 for the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) Children's Cancer Fund.

Organiser Helen Symonds said: "Cullercoats was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of such a young member of the community and the money raised is representative of the strength of support towards the family."

Hexham’s Blue Eyed Strangers ceilidh band played at the event for free.
