THRILL-SEEKING filmgoers in the North-East have been given their wish, with a special Halloween screening of their favourite scary movie.

Stanley Kubrick’s classic chiller The Shining earned the accolade after coming out top in a poll of audience members at The Tyneside Cinema, in Newcastle, over the last two months.

Filmgoers responded in their hundreds, with votes ranging from classic horror titles, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Suspiria, to modern favourites, including The Conjuring and The Descent.

There was even a tongue-in-cheek vote for the enduring Walt Disney children’s favourite Bambi.

But it was Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall, that won the day.

The Pilgrim Street cinema is hosting a Spooktacular Halloween Party, with themed food and drink, in its ground-floor café, on Saturday, from 7pm.

It will include a horror quiz and prizes for the best costumes, followed by the cinema’s popular Cult Classic All-Nighter, where audiences can see some of the greatest horror films ever made, on both Saturday and Sunday, for just £1 per film.

The Shining screening is on Monday , at 8.10pm. Tickets are available online, at www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/the-shining, by calling 0191-227-5500 or at the box office.
