A ROCK climber was airlifted to hospital after falling around 50ft from a Northumberland crag.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the incident at Peel Crag around 6.10pm on Monday.
"The GNAAS doctor-led trauma team assessed and treated the 48-year-old man for a chest injury before Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team helped to stretcher the patient to the waiting aircraft," said an air ambulance spokeswoman.
"He was then flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle within 12 minutes.
"It is believed that rock instability caused the climber to fall after he grabbed a piece of rock which then fell from the crag."
This is the third incident within three months which GNAAS has attended at the same crag after two rock climbers were airlifted to hospital in May.
