A POLICE officer and a passing doctor helped save a man's life after he was found unconscious in a city centre.
At 7.50pm on Thursday night mounted officers on patrol in Newcastle city centre were alerted to a man who found near to Greys monument.
They checked on him and found he was not breathing.
Taking quick action, one of the officers began giving the man CPR and with the help of a passing doctor they managed to get a pulse.
He was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Central Area Command Superintendent Steve Ammari said: "Thanks to the quick-thinking and brave actions taken by these officers they were able to save this man's life.
"I am extremely proud of what they did and this shows that there is much more to policing than just making arrests and that officers will do all they can to save lives and help people."
