LIBERAL Democrat leader Tim Farron will visit the North-East tomorrow (Monday, January 25).

The Westmorland and Lonsdale MP will visit Newcastle, meeting the chief executive of the city’s Citizens’ Advice Bureau, which is under threat due to budget cuts; visit Monument Metro station and back calls for investment in the Metro system; and host a ‘Talk to Tim’ event at Newcastle University Students’ Union (NUSU).

Mr Farron studied politics at Newcastle University and was president of its Union Society in 1991. He became Lib Dem leader last summer, after Nick Clegg resigned following the party’s disastrous result at the General Election.

Dom Fearon, president of the NUSU, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Tim back to the Students’ Union.

“It’s been 25 years since Tim was president of the Students’ Union and I’m sure students now are still as passionate about democracy as they were then.”

The Talk to Tim event is open to all. It will be held in the history room at the Students’ Union from 6pm to 7.30pm.
