AN ALLEGED rapist has had his face beamed from the back of a van as part of a Crimestoppers campaign to catch the country’s ‘Most Wanted’.

Yousef Babaye is wanted by Northumbria Police in connection with the rape of a woman under the age of 18 in Newcastle.

Babaye also goes by the nicknames Shaho Babaye and Shaho Kaled. Police suspect he may have left the UK, but haven’t ruled out him still being in the region.

Three vans fitted with large digital screens have been touring the UK and show the faces of alleged offenders wanted by police, including Babaye. One is to visit Old Eldon Square, in Newcastle, this Saturday (November 21).

Crimestoppers’ Most Wanted online gallery was launched ten years ago and has led to 3,589 arrests to date.

Mark Hallas, chief executive for Crimestoppers, said: “Most Wanted appeals to the nation’s ‘arm chair’ detectives – those who want to help fight crime from the safety of their own home and, above all else, anonymously.”
