A 40-YEAR-OLD arrested in connection with the death of a Wallsend man has been bailed pending further police enquiries.

Officers are continuing to investigate the death of 39-year-old Anthony Hampton of David Street, Wallsend.

He was found outside his home at around 8pm on Monday (October 5). He died soon after at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Officers still want to speak to a man, a witness, who was in David Street on Monday, October 5 at approximately 6pm.

He is described as an older man who parked a small white van in David Street and was asked to help another man in the street. This van driver came to the man's assistance.

Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said: "This is an active enquiry and police want to speak to this van driver as it's thought he may have information which would assist officers. Police would also like to hear from anyone who may know who this man with the van is so we can speak to this witness as soon as possible."
