A MAN is in a stable condition in hospital after he suffered serious stab wounds.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the 37-year-old man was assaulted in North Tyneside.
Officers were called to an address at York Road in Whitley Bay on Tuesday, August 25, just before 6.30pm.
They found a man inside a flat with serious stab wounds to his stomach. He was taken to hospital where is he still receiving treatment, his condition is described as serious but stable.
Police carried out enquiries in the area and 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in custody.
Officers are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
Detective Sergeant Steve Hakin said: "We recognise this incident will cause concern for residents and we want to reassure people that we have extra officers on patrol carrying out enquiries.
"Anyone who may have information about the assault is asked to come forward and speak to us."
