THE WHO legend Roger Daltrey has accepted a £250,000 cheque on behalf of the Teenager Cancer Trust.

The mod icon, who is honorary patron of the charity, received the cheque at The Close House Golf Club, near Newcastle.

The cash, raised over the over the last three years through the annual UK-wide March of the Mods, was handed over by Eddie Penny, who founded event, along with his wife Debbie, and fellow organisers from Hartlepool, Micky and Sharon Hudson.

March of the Mods is a fundraising event that takes place each year, with Mod-themed events held across the country throughout March.

Events range from fashion shows to scooter ride outs, raffles and auctions, and performances by bands and DJs, and all raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, their chosen charity.

Mr Daltrey said: “March of the Mods has raised a massive sum which will help teenagers and young adults with cancer through Teenage Cancer Trust’s units and services across the UK.

“Everyone involved should be really proud of themselves, their passion has created something amazing.”

Mr Penny said: “We couldn’t be prouder. Handing over the cheque to Roger Daltrey, an original Mod icon himself, was an incredible moment for us.”
