POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a string of robberies.
A 34-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of robbery after four incidents in as many days.
The arrest has been made in relation to two robberies on Wednesday where a man entered the Co-operative store on the Allerdene estate in Gateshead and the One Stop shop in Birtley.
He has also been arrested in connection with two robberies in Birtley on Sunday where a quantity of cash was stolen following raids on the BP petrol station and the same One Stop shop.
The suspect has been released on bail pending further enquiries and officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information to get in touch with Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 4 29/07/15.
