A TEAM of healthcare workers will take on a demanding challenge this weekend to raise money for charity.

Staff based at the Hopewood Park Hospital, in Ryhope, Sunderland will take part in the gruelling Total Warrior challenge in the Lake District on Saturday (Aug 1).

The team all work for the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust and hope to raise £1,000 for the trust’s Shine Fund by completing the endurance challenge.

Ward manager Jon Milford will lead the team as they tackle the challenging 10km cross country assault course, which includes 24 obstacles.

He said: “The idea to take part in the Total Warrior challenge came from one of our staff nurses Lewis Petty who has been great in encouraging the team to work together in preparation for this weekend’s event.

“We are also proud to be supporting the Shine Fund which not only brings awareness to mental health and reducing stigma, but allows us to purchase little extra comforts for our service users using donations to fund activities such arts and crafts and buying equipment for activities such as the gardening project at Hopewood Park.”
