TWO of the region’s leading charities are hosting a football-themed race day on the eve of the new Barclays Premier League Season.

Sunderland AFC’s community charity Foundation of Light and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation will be hosting the event at Newcastle Racecourse on Friday, August 14.

BBC Radio Newcastle’s Total Sport will be broadcasting live from the event with Simon Pryde, Gary Bennett and John Anderson giving their predictions for Newcastle and Sunderland’s upcoming seasons.

Tickets are priced at £85 per person or for a table £825, where guests will enjoy a three-course meal, race card and entertainment; furthermore one guest will get the chance to win hundreds of pounds at the Gosforth Park Suite.

As well as this, special guests from both football clubs will be making surprise visits throughout the day.

Foundation of Light Event Coordinator Jemma Garrett commented: “This event gives football fans the opportunity to enjoy a great day at the races, enjoy some top quality football chat and help two of the region’s leading charities in the process.”

Last year’s event raised more than £10,000 for charity.

Liz Luff from the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation said: “Last year’s Race Day was a great success and the mix of racing, football and charity fundraising created a very special atmosphere for everyone”.
