POLICE found a woman injured in a house after she was earlier seen being bundled into a car.

Officers were called to Silksworth Way in Sunderland at 4.43am today.

Enquiries then led them to an address in Flighters Place in Sunderland where they discovered a 27-year-old woman with injuries inside the premises. She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment and her condition is described as stable.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.  

Police say they believe this is an isolated incident and it is believed the man and woman are known to each other. Enquiries are ongoing.

Acting Detective Sergeant Natalie Robson said: "We know that local residents may be feeling concerned that this incident has taken place, however we do want to reassure people that this is a most unusual occurrence.  

"We have additional uniformed officers on duty in the area to speak to residents and anyone with concerns is asked to talk to an officer about this matter."

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
