WITH just days to go until they kick off the UK leg of their Sonic Highways tour on at Wearside, US rock gods Foo Fighters have announced an additional support act for their headline show.

With UK music giants Kaiser Chiefs already confirmed, it has been announced that Irish rock band The Strypes will kick off the evening’s entertainment at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Monday (May 25).

The first support act is expected on stage at around 6pm and fans are advised to arrive at the stadium as early as possible to avoid queues or delays on entry.

External courtyards will be open from approximately 2pm and vast array of food and drink options will be available.

Meanwhile, police are reminding those attending the concert to look after their property.

Northumbria Police’ southern Chief Superintendent Andy McDyer said: "Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the Stadium of Light on Monday all looking forward to a great night.

"We want people to remember their night for the right reasons and not for being a victim of crime.

"We know people will be using cameras and mobile phones to take pictures throughout the event and it's really important they do everything they can to protect them.

"We don't want to seem like killjoys because we know people are at the gig to enjoy themselves.

"We would just ask that concert-goers to bear in mind that there may be opportunist thieves taking advantage of the event. Don't give them any opportunity and keep your valuables safe."

Uniformed police and club security officials will be inside and outside the ground to offer help and assistance to anyone that should need it.
